Sam Strickler
Sam Strickler has been a member of St. Alban’s since birth. Baptized by Father Bill Wolfrum and later confirmed, Sam grew up in Worland and graduated from Worland High School. Being a member of St. Alban’s has provided a consistency when life has thrown its ups and downs. The church family has provided her much comfort and joy. Much of Sam's career has been in caregiving, starting at Worland Healthcare working with Alzheimer’s patients and later caring for children. Taking care of others has always been a passion for her. Sam serves as the coordinator of the altar guild and prayer chain, is a member of the congregational care team and the Born-Again board, has been junior warden since 2017, and became the parish administrator in 2019. Being a member of Born Again has been very educational and rewarding. They give so much back to the community and the people. They never struggle to find a need for those in need. Sam’s grandmother was the leader of the altar guild. She took her along as a kid and was a very good teacher. It has provided a special connection for Sam to now be on the altar guild. Her time as junior warden & parish administrator have shown just how much goes into keeping a church open and functioning. Sam looks forward to serving St. Alban’s for many years to come and is excited to see what the future holds for them down the road.

Our History
Since all good and proper historical accounts begin with “In the year_____” so will this one. In 1916, less than a dozen Episcopalians lived in the town of Worland, Missionary District of Wyoming. At this time, Worland was a preaching station or unorganized mission under the jurisdiction of Thermopolis. For the first 35 years, the people of Worland struggled to move from house to house and even the building for the Seven Day Adventists. In 1951, the first building was built for the Episcopalians to reside in. After a short period of time, it was realized that a new building was needed, so 10 acres of land was acquired on the east side of town, where the new church was built in the style of a cross. The main feature of the church was a large 16-ton granite rock cut from a stream outside of Basin and brought into the church to be used as an altar. In the early 1970s, the parish hall was added with three class rooms, a children’s play room, a kitchen and a large dining area. The church was almost complete; however, the bells were not in the tower. In February 1981, the bells were installed and now ring every hour throughout the year. We were pleased on October 1, 2011, that our church was chosen to be the 45th home for the Diocese of Wyoming Convention. We have enjoyed being a part of every committee within the diocese serving the communities. One such service that has brought many people together is the African ministries started by Bishop John Smylie in 2012, with The Rev. James Stewart as one of his representatives and later The Rev. Linda Anderson assuming the responsibilities. We have had four congregants and one person from Worland represent the diocese in Africa, England and India. We have recently put a labyrinth in our area to share the spirit of God with the whole community. The church has struggled over the years, but it has all been well worth the time to share our love of God with the people of God. Stop in when you have a chance and worship at the Rock Altar of God.
