Rector Ramblings

Christmas is just around the corner and we are starting to get prepared for the season of joy, however we must think about the advent season.  This is a season for solace and reflection preparing ourselves for the arrival of Jesus Christ on Christmas Eve.

For some it is a time of depression as they do not feel like celebrating.  This could be because of the loss of work, the loss of loved ones that will be remembered, illness or just the dislike of all the commercial ads that say you must have this product to be happy.

During this time, we can also reflect and be with those that need a little time with God and one another.  We are going to hold a Blue Christmas service to reflect on some of our pains from the prior weeks, months or even years as well as joys to come.   To also think about some that are suffering during this time.

The service is one of prayer, lighting candles, and healing.  I find this service to be very soothing for those in need as well as for myself.

Let us remember what this season is all about.  Love and Joy for the birth of Jesus Christ as he comes to join us with God.  It is also the time to share with family and friends as we move to another joyous year of celebrating together.

My wife and I have always enjoyed the Christmas celebrations from many different churches.   This year we are looking forward to two services here at St. Alban’s.  We will have the early service with an adult Christmas pageant and then the midnight service starting at 10:30 with music.  I have always heard that most people would rather be in bed at this time, but I find it to be the one time of the year that I love to stay up and celebrate the blessed birth.

Please join us no matter how you celebrate.  We will have a service for everyone.
