Rector Ramblings

Over the last few months, I have had the privilege of serving on the Standing Committee helping to support the diocese in the absence of a Bishop.  We have had the honor of serving with the assisting bishop, our past Presiding bishop, The Most Reverend Katherine Jefferts Schori.  She has been an absolute delight to have as a presence in Wyoming during our time of transition.

We sometimes look to the past bishops and say we would like to go back and have this bishop or that one once again.  These are feelings of remembrance for the good old days.  But with that said we sometimes forget some of the struggles we had during their tenure.

Our eyes must remain on the present and looking towards the future.  To learn from our past and search for God in all our upcoming endeavors.  We will be exploring a new Provisional Bishop nominee over the next month or so.  I would ask that you look at this candidate and consider all his or her gifts that they can bring to Wyoming.  The candidate would be our part time provisional bishop to guide us over the next year or two until we would be able to select a permanent bishop.  With Bishop Katherine leaving and the possibility of another bishop taking over we would have a bishop to take care of our needs until our new permanent bishop might be selected.

It seems like a long time to wait for a bishop; however, we need to make sure we have the right person to serve with us in our diocese.  Sometimes patience can be a virtue.  When you consider a priest or rector can take as long as one to three years, a bishop search is about the same.

The business of the committees in Wyoming have done very well over the last year and need to be congratulated on their accomplishments.  We have all had to step up in the diocese, however I feel it has made us stronger as an Episcopalian body.

Be patient, be kind, be loving, but most of all remember Jesus Christ was patient kind and full of love for all of us as he is during this process.

May God be with all of us.
